From Calabar to Berlin: Girls Trafficking from Nigeria to Europe and the Role of African Traditional Religion (Thyssen)
This project will study the role of African Traditional Religion (ATR), priests, priestesses and shrines in women trafficking in Nigeria. It raises questions such as the role of secrecy in ATR and why and how ATR is used as an object of coercion to aid traffickers in holding young Nigerian girls and women in the long chain of slavery to Europe? The purpose of the project is to outline gaps in our knowledge on the research on human trafficking and religion, contribute to the gap and hope to open up new themes in the field that could help enrich our awareness on the dynamics of trafficking in the world particularly in Nigeria and Germany.
