Benita Kawalla is a PhD student at Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel. Her dissertation project examines migration and naturalization configurations for families in a postcolonial context using the example of Jordan. Benita focuses on heterosexual mixed-status families in which the mothers have Jordanian citizenship but are unable to pass it on to their foreign or stateless husbands and their children due to Jordan's restrictive citizenship laws. The core of the study consists of biographical-narrative family and individual interviews, which will be analyzed with the help of biographical case reconstruction and biographical evaluation of policies. The research focuses on the question of which intra-family practices and negotiation processes shape the lifeworld of these families.
