Yerevan: After the Revolution, Before the Purge

The three-tier lecture series sheds light on experiments with urbanity far from Moscow in the Southern Caucasus from the mid-1920s to the mid-1930s. Here it turns to the capital of the nascent Armenian SSR, Yerevan, and employs three distinct conceptual prisms in an effort to forge a novel optics for making sense of urbanity in the Soviet South: Yerevan as Retrotopia, as Communopolis and Non-Western City.
