Hilal Alkan and Anna Steigemann separately worked with Syrian refugees in Istanbul and Berlin. In this conversation, they ask each other questions about the processes of arrival in the place of asylum, new neighbourhoods, homemaking practices, and feeling at home. Benefiting from interdiscipli-narity, due both to their own multidisciplinary approaches and to this encounter of an anthropologist and an urban researcher, their conversation revolves around the material, social, and affective aspects of home and homemaking.
